Bruce Telecom – A Rich and Colourful past; A Bright Future

Our Company has a rich and colourful past that can be traced back through historical records to our beginning at a small public gathering held in the village of Underwood on February 19, 1910. A handful of hardy Bruce Township petitioners braved what was perhaps a typically blustery and cold Bruce County winter’s day to gather there to lobby the municipality for the establishment of a telephone company.

This insightful group of pioneers worked diligently to see their vision to link farm families in Underwood and Tiverton together through a magneto telephone system consisting of wooden poles, iron wire, crank telephones and dry cell batteries. They could not possibly have imagined the technological wonders that lie ahead that would see the delivery of voice, video and data over a complex network of silicon chips, high frequency radio waves and hair-like strands of glass and the company that would come to be known as “Bruce Telecom”.

Though the company has grown and evolved from that nascent beginning at Underwood in 1910 into a modern, full service communications company providing a full suite of voice, video and data services, Bruce Telecom in a small but very human way, is as much today as it was then; local people committed to providing local persons, business and institutions with the most affordable and highest quality communications and entertainment services possible.

Bruce Telecom will soon be celebrating 100 years of service to the community as we recognize our conception as a company in the autumn of 2010 and our birth as a telecom services provider throughout 2011. True to our roots and to the traditions of Bruce County, our customers and our communities will be very much a part of that celebration as we look forward to the next century of service and prosperity for all.
