Southampton Fibre to the Home - FAQProject Map Phase 1 - 2008(click above for map)Why is Bruce Telecom installing FTTH in Southampton? The installation of fibre optic cable in Southampton will allow Bruce Telecom to provide multiple services to your home with the latest digital technology and improve the Quality of Service to you. What are the benefits of FTTH to me? You can have telephone, Internet and digital television over the same line at the same time. If I want phone service, high speed Internet or television from Bruce Telecom, do I need to have fibre buried to my home? Yes. Do I need to have fibre buried to my home if my phone services, Internet or television services are with another provider? No. However if you choose to have services from Bruce Telecom in future, you will be required to connect to our cable. What if I do not agree to have it installed at this time? The fibre optic cable will be laid to your lot line and buried in an underground vault on the boulevard for future use. What if I do not agree now and change my mind later? Bruce Telecom will provide service at your request. However installation may be delayed if we have to trench the portion of cable from the boulevard to your home at that time. By installing the cable to your home while we are installing cable down your street, Bruce Telecom will be able to provide service to you, upon your request, in a normal time frame. If I allow the fibre to be buried on my property at this time, am I obligated to take any Bruce Telecom services now or in the future? No. When will digital TV be available to me? Digital TV is now available for those people in Southampton who have had the fibre conduit installed on their street. The conduit and fibre needs to be installed to a customer’s premise for TV to be installed. Who will repair any damage that may be done to my lawn during installation? The contractors Bruce Telecom has engaged will be responsible for ensuring any property damage caused by trenching cable will be repaired. What does the connection on my home look like? The Network Interface Device (NID) is a small box that is placed inside the home next to the hydro panel in most cases. The fibre optic cable will terminate in this device and connect to the inside wiring of your home. Is there any cost to me for the installation? No. If I choose to have service with Bruce Telecom, what happens to my connection with Bell? If you choose Bruce Telecom for phone service and/or Internet, your service with Bell will end and your service with Bruce Telecom will begin. Can I keep my current television provider? Yes. The fibre optic cable Bruce Telecom installs will be used only by Bruce Telecom to provide services at your request. What other services does Bruce Telecom have available to me? Bruce Telecom offers phone service, Internet, long distance and Business System solutions.
