FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Who will be able to get Digital TV?
The majority of customers in our telco area of Tiverton, Kincardine, Port Elgin, Paisley and Southampton who qualify for Cheetah DSL service. There may be some restrictions in regards to distance and/or line quality.

When will Digital TV be available?
Early in 2008.

Do I have to have full-service Cheetah or will it work on Cheetah Lite?
The Digital TV service may work on Cheetah Lite. If you are able to have full-service Cheetah but have chosen Cheetah Lite, your line should support Digital TV. If you have Cheetah Lite because that is the most speed your line is able to support the Digital TV will not work. Please call Bruce Telecom Customer Care to have this checked out if you are uncertain about your line speed.

Am I limited to the number of TVs I can set up?
Yes, under prime circumstances you can have up to 5 TVs connected to the Digital TV service.
If you have fibre to the home you will be able to connect up to 5 TVs to the Digital TV service.

If I am on the Internet and phone and someone is watching TV, would this effect the speed in any of these areas?
No.

Is it available at each jack location within the home?
If your home is wired with CAT5 wire Digital TV service will be available at all the jacks in your home. If not, your home may need re-wiring or you may chose to install the wireless solution Bruce Telecom will be offering to its customers.

Will there be an on-screen TV Guide?
Yes.

Will there be a hard-copy TV Guide?
No.

Will there be time shifting available?
Yes, on some channels.

Do I need to have a DSL package to get the Digital TV service?
No. Digital TV service can be purchased from Bruce Telecom as a separate service from DSL. The availability of the Digital TV service will still have to be confirmed to ensure you are able to obtain the service.

My telephone lines are really old, does this matter?
Yes, the condition of your telephone line could affect the quality of the service.

How easy is it to change packages?
You will be able to make changes from the set-top box.

Is this compatible with HDTV?
Yes.

Will Bruce Telecom be offering bundles?
Yes.

What is the connection charge?
There will be no charges to connect to Digital TV service.

Is there a minimum length of time I have to take it for?
All customers will be required to pay a minimum charge for service of one month.
If the customer has purchased equipment under a promotional contract there may be charges upon termination.

Will there be a contract for customers to sign?
No contract will be required for the Digital TV service. However, customers will be charged a minimum of one month for all services they have signed up for. A contract will be required with any equipment promotion.

How many outlets can I have?
You can have numerous outlets.
Note that if additional outlets need to be installed the installation of those is chargeable.

What are the monthly packages?
Bruce Telecom's basic package will be $99.95 including Phone, Long Distance, basic Digital TV and DSL.

Will it cost anything to change packages or add channels?
There will be no service charges to change packages or add channels.

Are we offering Digital TV to businesses?
The initial offering is for Residences only.

Can I run a Satellite system and Digital TV on the same TV?
Yes. You will need a switch to change between your Satellite system and Digital TV. Bruce Telecom will not be providing switching equipment. Customers will be responsible for this.

Are there any extra monthly charges for running more than one TV or receiver?
No.

Will I be required to pay a deposit?
The current policy will be followed. Please contact Customer Care to discuss how deposits for service may apply to your account.

Does it have Internet capability like the new Playstation available on the market?
The Digital TV service will not have Internet capability.

Is the Digital TV interactive?
Bruce Telecom will be offering Video On Demand to customers with its Digital TV service. This will allow customers to watch movies, etc when they want to, any day, at any time.

How long does it take to get it after I order it?
Under normal circumstances, it will take approximately one week to set the service up. Customer demand for this service could increase the time required to connect customers.

Will a technician have to visit my premise to set this up?
In the majority of cases a visit may be required. A convenient time will be arranged with the customer.

Will an OPX affect the availability?
Yes, if you have an OPX, Digital TV will not work at your location.

What equipment will I have to have?
You will require one modem or NID and a set top box for each TV.

What can customers do with their equipment from their current satellite provider?
There will be an exchange program, which customers may choose to participate in.
Your dish is no longer required and is your responsibility.

Do I lose my TV or my phone if the Internet goes out?
No.

What happens to my service in the event of a hydro outage?
If you have a copper line to your residence your phone will continue to work as it has in the past, however, until the power is restored to your set top boxes, TVs and computers, you will have no Digital TV or Internet service.
If you have fibre to your home your Digital TV and Internet will not work until power is restored to your set top boxes, TVs and computers. There is a backup battery source in the NID on the outside of your home, which will provide up to 8 hours of standby power for your telephone. If power has not been restored before the battery backup has been depleted you will not have phone service. Customers may wish to look at purchasing a backup power supply for their home or just the telephone to ensure telephone service during an extended power outage.
